A Visual Dictionary to Bruegel's Children's Games

Children's Games, painted by Pieter Bruegel in 1560, shows over 80 games being played in a town square. For the Children's Games Project I have created a set of drawings cataloging the individual games shown in the painting. These drawings serve as a guide for participants to pick their favorite game to re-enact. Participants may play the game, or simply re-create the pose as shown in the painting. In either case the results are captured on camera and shared via this website.

The goal of the CGP is to create a contemporary archive of re-enactments and reinterpretations of the play in Bruegel's painting. The CGP examines, playfully, the humanism and wit of an early Renaissance masterwork that is still current today.
